Inspiration
Today: Each
of your habits creates a specific 'groove', or pathway, in the brain. These patterns
make you behave in a certain way, often against your wish... In that sense you
are not a free person; you are more or less a victim of the habits you have formed.
But you can neutralize the dictates of those bad habits. How? By creating brain
patterns of opposite good habits. --- Paramahansa Yogananda

All new Yoga students are required to take the first three 75-minute classes.
This will allow a systematic introduction of Yoga. 3/29/09
I have just finished an Iyengar Yoga immersion course at The BKS Iyengar Yoga
Centers of San Diego. The course was consisted of an Iyengar Yoga teachers training,
weekend asana and pranayama classes, and a daily morning backbend practice,
taught by senior Iyengar Yoga instructors Eddy Marks & Mary Obendorfer. I
will now start to incorporate the Iyengar Yoga style and its class format into
our Thursday evening class. 11/18/08
Leaving for India. Will stay at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram. Plan to participate
its programs, but not exclusively. The town of Rishikesh is known as "The
Capital of Yoga" for the world. I have gathered information on several ashrams,
including the Yoga philosophy courses, meditation and Hatha Yoga classes they
offer. Once there, I would like to explore, learn, and later share. 8/20/08
Back from China, again. While being there to see the Olympic games, I also
took the time to meet with Yoga Journal China's managing editor. Yoga has certainly
gained popularity in China. Participants there are about one generation younger
than in the U.S. Their focus is different, too. 7/01/07
Back from China. New for this summer is a Saturday morning group yoga class from
8:45 to 10:00. Wednesday evening's class continues. There are two spots still
open for Wednesday evening. 5/30/07
I will
be in China for the publishing of a book I have written. Some promotion info can
be seen here.
(I wrote the book but not the promotion material, which I actually find a little
embarrassing!) So I will be in Beijing and Shanghai, and probably Kungming until
the end of June. In the past, when I was away from teaching yoga I always took
yoga classes. This time, if I can escape from promotion obligations, I will be
studying Qi Gong and share what I hope to learn with my students and clients when
I return. 9/15/06

Just read a new study by researchers at University of Iowa and the Technical University
of Aachen, Germany, which used a special brain imaging technology, called "functional
magnetic resonance imaging" (fMRI), and found that hypnosis alters brain
activity in a way that might explain pain reduction by hypnosis. Details

Summer is officially here, despite the typical San Diego June gray. Today is the
first day of summer and the longest day of the year. Enjoy, be well and be happy.
Namaste. 06/15/05
Several weeks ago, I had the honor to be interviewed by TimeWarner Cable Ch19's
The Melody Show on the topics of Yoga, hypnotherapy and psychology, and my approaches
to them. The interview was conducted in Chinese as The Melody Show is a Chinese
community program. A small part of the interview will be aired on Thursday, June
16, at 8:00 pm. The major part is scheduled to air two weeks later Thursday,
June 30, also at 8:00 pm. There is a third part of the interview where Dr. Sharon
Wu-Peng joined in. This part will air on a later date, yet to be determined.

June 2-5,
2005 Along
with 20 other Yoga teachers from various parts of the country, I attended a four-day
Silver Age Yoga workshop held at the Pacific Athletic Club in Del Mar. Gerontologists
and physicians from UCSD School of Medicine and other medical centers lectured
on arthritis, osteoporosis, and pulmonary diseases, stress and other age related
topics. The information was presented in the context of how Yoga teachers can
best understand the health conditions in order to tailor their Yoga teaching.
The organizers, renowned Yoga teachers Frank and Serpil Iszak, taught us how to
teach seniors seated and chair-supported yoga postures while keeping in mind the
benefits and contraindications of each posture. The workshop was tremendously
helpful for a Yoga teacher like me, who was used to teach Yoga to physically able
bodies. More and more, however, I realized that people who come to me to learn
Yoga have many and varied physical conditions. I hope that my effort in further
understanding these conditions will translate into better services to my clients.

Yoga Day USA 2005. Join us to experience Yoga's benefits: Both within the physical
body and beyond to the mental, emotional and spiritual. Yoga Alliance launched
Yoga Day USA in 1999 as a means to build awareness of Yoga throughout the community.
